The Oil Barons power-play gave up a short handed goal and went 0 for 10 on Tuesday night in Game 3 on their way to a 5-1 loss.

The difference in the game was an inability to finish off opportunities by the Barons who actually ended up out shooting the Saints 37-36 and held the Saints to just 16 shots over the final two periods of play.

Branden Gracel put the Barons up 1-0 less than a minute into the hockey game but after that the Saints Vince Marozzi shut the door.

POST GAME AUDIO

I had a chance to catch up with Captain Michael Perry after the game.

Third Goal Controversy ?

I’m not to sure what the referees were thinking on the 3rd goal by the Saints….here’s a listen to the call of the goal…as you can hear I clearly point out before the puck goes in (whistle) that the net was off….and as myself and Jordan Berk noted…the linesman had to put the net back in place following the goal.

Third Goal Call

Obviously that blown call is not the reason the Barons lost the game (see powerplay) but still in a 2-1 hockey game the officials should probably be on top of this a little better. Earlier in the game the the refs blew the play dead with the Oil Barons having the puck on the power-play in the offensive zone…if it was blown dead that time then it should have been blown dead at this time as well.

Fourth Line Follies

One of the biggest differences in the series so far is the fourth lines. The Saints fourth line has scored their teams first goal in all 3 games and in Game 4 the trio also scored their second goal.

On the other side of things the MOB’s fourth line of Rolling, Toews and Lauder is now minus 5 in the series.

Game 4

If the Oil Barons can play on Wednesday night like they did on Tuesday night they have a good shot in tieing this series….however the boys must find a way to capitalize on numerous scoring chances.

Myself and Jordan Berk will have the pre-game show at 8:15 on Country 93.3
